New Milton RFC charity match raises funds for David Gill

More than 60 players participated in a charity rugby match to support New Milton Rugby Club stalwart David Gill.

Hundreds of spectators gathered at the club to watch the 'overs vs unders' game, which featured impressive performances and thrilling tries.

David, who is battling cancer and untreatable normal pressure hydrocephalus, awarded the 'Daddy Gill Cup' to the under-35s captain, Dylan Colein-Gill.

The young team secured victory in the final quarter, but the match had been closely contested until then.

The over-35s team, including players in their 60s, put in a commendable effort with James Poole, Sam Bew, Chris Conacher, Bryn Derbyshire, Tyrone Holden, and Dan Oliver all scoring tries.

The under-35s scored tries through Ross Richardson, Christian Brown, Noah Miller, Dalton Thomas, Ben Field, Sam Farnden, and Tom Wood.

A raffle, auction and live music followed the match.

Club president Phil Hoyle said: "It was a fantastic day with so many players and supporters turning out for David.

"It just showed what love and respect there is for him.

"It also shows what rude health the club is in."
